CQC propose special measures to help GP practices improve
Under proposals announced recently, GP practices rated inadequate by Care Quality Commission inspectors will be offered assistance to help them to improve and will be placed in special measures.
The CQC have been working with the Royal College of General Practitioners and NHS England to introduce a new programme of support for GP practices that are placed in special measures. The plans have now been updated and the approach is due to be finalised around April 2015.
The Commission began rating practices in October 2014 and are suggesting that when a practice is rated inadequate overall, it be placed in special measures, giving the practice access to a support package from NHS England. If the rating does not then improve within 12 months, the registration will be cancelled. NHS England would ensure that patients of the practice would still have access to GP services.
