Misconduct charges proved against Shropshire trust midwives
The misconduct charges against two midwives over the care of a mother and baby have been proved.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council panel found the midwives did not communicate sufficiently to ensure the continuous care of the mother. A third midwife admitted that she should have monitored the baby’s heart rate before birth, but denied misconduct.
An additional hearing which began on Monday was to make a decision on the charges which had been denied.
The panel will reconvene in April to determine whether the midwives’ fitness to practice was impaired and what action is to be taken.
The case has been brought about as a direct referral to the Nursing and Midwifery Council surrounding a review of maternity care at Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals NHS Trust following several infant deaths.
Since then the case has expanded after over 200 families came forward with concerns over midwifery care.
