The Divorce Gift Card

First there was the Heartbreak Hotel in Holland, promising to sort out a couple’s divorce over a weekend, now there is a Mexican Supermarket offering , of all things, a Divorce Gift Card.

The company delivering the service claims that there are just 4 simple steps to complete the process with users having 30 days to make their final decision as to whether or not to go ahead.

The purpose? Allegedly to prove that separation does not have to be complicated or expensive.

The ease with which parties can separate on this basis may well horrify many and could be seen to be failing to encourage couples, particularly those with children, to work together to resolve problems. Those however determined to extricate themselves from their marriage, this is surely the quickest and easiest way around! The question is, could this Gift Card phenomenon ever arrive here?
