Our specialist team of medical negligence solicitors at Chadwick Lawrence have been successful in claims for our clients where they have suffered an injury due to delays in diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disorders or misinterpretation of an x ray.

Respiratory disorders affect the lungs, trachea (windpipe), bronchi and bronchioles and include lung cancer, emphysema, chronic and acute bronchitis and asthma, tuberculosis, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax, (collapsed lung) and infections such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. A specialist doctor in these types of disease is a Respiratory Physician. Heart problems, including heart failure can also affect the lungs.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of death, which commonly presents as a persistent cough. Other symptoms can include chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, weakness, coughing up blood or blood in the sputum, weight loss or loss of appetite. Sometimes it is symptomless or the symptoms are vague.
Emphysema is a condition in which the air sacs of the lungs are damaged and enlarged, causing breathlessness.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called the mycobacterium bacteria. It primarily affects the lungs and can cause pneumonia along with chest pain, coughing up blood and a prolonged cough.

Pulmonary Embolism is a blood clot in the lung. This is a serious, life-threatening condition. Symptoms include shortness of breath, anxiety, chest pain and coughing.

A delay in diagnosis or delay in treatment of respiratory conditions could cause you significant injury including further lung damage, heart failure, brain damage or death. You may have been suffering from symptoms and your GP has failed to carry out any investigations or refer you to a specialist. You may have been referred to the hospital and the treating doctors have failed to investigate your symptoms or misinterpreted a scan or x-ray or failed to act on results of a report on a scan.
