Dispute Resolution

FAQs

How much will it cost?

Dependent upon the nature of your dispute or claim, we are able to consider a range of funding options for your matter. Our time is charged on an hourly basis, at varying rates dependent upon the experience of the lawyer dealing with your matter and / or the nature and complications of the case. In some circumstances we are able to offer a conditional fee arrangement (commonly known as “no win, no fee”) usually with insurance cover for your opponent’s costs. In some cases we can offer a fixed fee and in limited circumstances legal aid may be available.

Can I pay by instalments?

From the outset you will be given an indication of the likely costs involved in your matter. This is continuously reviewed and monitored by us, and if the work required changes as the case develops you will be advised. We ensure that you are continually kept up to date at all times, and from the outset we encourage a payment plan so that you can budget and monitor payments by instalments.

How long will my case last?

Unfortunately, as each case is different it is impossible to answer this question, although we will endeavour to do so at the outset, it will be continually reviewed and you will be continually updated. As a general rule however, a standard case in the county court will take about 9 – 12 months to conclude if the matter proceeds all the way to a trial.

Will I recover my costs if I win?

It is usual practice for the successful party to obtain an order that his or her opponent pays a contribution towards costs. However, this can never be guaranteed, as it is solely at the discretion of the Judge and even if a costs order is made, the usual contribution will be to re-pay in the region of 70% of the total costs incurred.

What does your Lexcel accreditation mean?

Lexcel is the practice management standard regulated and awarded by the Law Society. It means that Chadwick Lawrence LLP has met certain quality standards following a rigorous assessment. This is reviewed by the Law Society on an annual basis. It is only awarded to those firms who meet the highest standard in terms of client care, case management and risk management.
