Position: Telephonist

Chadwick Lawrence is recruiting for a Telephonist to work as part of the Reception team at Horbury.

Candidates must show a pro-active, professional and friendly attitude and demonstrate the highest standards of customer care.  Excellent communication skills together with the ability to process calls quickly and efficiently are essential.

Previous experience of working in a legal environment is desirable, but not essential.  Applicants must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook.

Chadwick Lawrence Trainee Scheme

For the first time, Chadwick Lawrence is offering an outstanding opportunity for two young people to kick start their careers by becoming an apprentice with ‘Yorkshire’s Legal People’.

Young people face increasingly difficult decisions about their future. The choice of higher education with its spiralling price tag or entering the job market in an uncertain economy could shape the course of an entire career.

This is why Chadwick Lawrence has decided to provide another option and is making a different career path into the legal profession available.

If you’re sitting A levels this summer and making big decisions about your future perhaps you’d like to consider working and learning at the same time as one of a number of apprentices who will ultimately become Legal Executives.

Chadwick Lawrence will pay a salary and will also meet all education costs for the qualification, as well as provide quality hands on work experience.

All interviews will be held during the Easter break and six potential apprentices will complete a week’s work experience at one of the Chadwick Lawrence’s offices in July during which they will get a feel for the various different types of law that the firm covers.

During this week Chadwick Lawrence will be looking for candidates with the desire and determination to succeed as well as the academic skills to cope with the qualification element to the training.

From the initial six, two final candidates will be selected in August and offered a place on the two year apprenticeship programme beginning in September including enrolment on the ILEX course through a local college, gradually completing via day or evening release.

The scheme offers an attractive alternative route into the legal profession, which doesn’t involve the huge amount of debt that university now involves. It is also a perfect opportunity to get some of the real, hands-on experience that most prospective employers want to see on a candidate’s CV.

In short, an apprenticeship with Chadwick Lawrence gives the best of both worlds.

What’s in it for us?

Well there are many advantages. We’ll have the real opportunity to mould and assist in the development of some very bright people who might not have otherwise had the opportunity to pursue a career in law, as well as a tailor made recruitment programme which teaches the way we believe works best as a Law Firm. We also see it as a genuine opportunity to make a difference and to build a very strong skill base of home grown talent.

Of course we are not alone in having apprentices. Many businesses have been taking on these types of recruits for years. We are, however, one of few regionally to do this in the Legal profession and we are very hopeful that it will produce some bright and determined lawyers in due course.

Qualification:

The programme itself will involve a mixture of both work-based learning and education. All apprentices will be required to study for an ILEX Examination (Institute of Legal Executives), taking an average of four years part-time study attending either one day or evening per week.

The ILEX course details are as follows:-

Stage 1 – Level 3 Professional Law Diploma (A ‘level standard)

Stage 2 – Level 6 Professional Higher Law Diploma (Honours Degree Standard)

Upon completion of both stages of the qualification, apprentices will be required to undertake a further two years employment with the Firm, before becoming a Legal Executive fee-earner at the Firm.

Entry Eligibility:

Applications are welcomed from all students who have already gained at least 5 GCSE’s at grade B or above in an academic subject, including English and Mathematics and three or more A ‘levels at grade B or above, in an academic subject during the summer of the current year.

Applicants must reside within easy travelling distance of our West Yorkshire based offices and must be available to attend for a work experience placement at a specific office prior to being offered a position.

Benefits Package:

Successful applicants will be mentored throughout their apprenticeship by a qualified member of staff.

Apprentices will receive an annual salary based on the minimum wage, which will be reviewed on an annual basis in January.

All training fees relating to the ILEX qualification will be paid for by the Firm.

Apprentices will also receive full contractual benefits including Holiday pay, Life Assurance and eligibility to join the Firm’s Pension Scheme.
