Dan Bell, Head of IT: Driving Digital Transformation with Determination and Resilience
At Chadwick Lawrence, leadership takes many forms. Across every department, colleagues are driving change, improving systems, and creating a stronger, more efficient business.
As Head of IT, Dan Bell plays a central role in that transformation, leading the firm’s digital strategy and ensuring technology continues to support growth, security, and innovation.
Beyond the office, Dan is a dedicated Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) player, representing Yorkshire, achieving recognition as Player of the Year and is soon to be representing England in the 2026 World Cup. Chadwick Lawrence is proud to sponsor Dan, supporting his continued wellbeing, personal development, and involvement in the community through sport.
Leading technology and people
Dan joined Chadwick Lawrence more than 14 years ago, bringing a background in software development and a master’s in project management from Leeds Metropolitan University. His determination started early, earning him a scholarship for the course in recognition of his approach, attitude, and leadership potential. Since then, he has transformed the firm’s IT function into the proactive, strategic team that it is today.
Dan manages both an internal team of six and a range of external partners, driving initiatives from Cyber Essentials accreditation and upgraded cyber security infrastructure to AI governance frameworks and innovative productivity tools. His approach balances technical innovation with business value, ensuring that every solution improves efficiency, client experience, or revenue opportunities.
Alongside this, Dan prioritises team development. He supports apprentices, graduates, and long-serving colleagues, fostering a culture of autonomy, accountability, and ongoing professional growth. He is currently completing a Level 7 apprenticeship in Data and AI, helping to prepare both himself and the business for future challenges.
Resilience and balance beyond the workplace
Dan’s personal journey reflects the same determination that drives his professional success. In 2021, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a challenge that initially affected his mobility and speech. Determined to rebuild his strength, he began working closely with therapists and focused on returning to fitness through the Leeds Rhinos Foundation running group, a connection made possible through Chadwick Lawrence’s longstanding partnership with the Leeds Rhinos, which spans more than 20 years.
This re-engagement with fitness reignited Dan’s passion for sport, eventually leading him back to rugby. He joined the Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL), where he quickly became a key part of the Yorkshire team, helping them to win the Yorkshire Series and earning certification to play at international level.
Since then, Dan has reached new heights in his sporting journey. He has now been selected to represent England as part of the PDRL England Community Lions squad for the 2026 World Cup in Australia – an incredible achievement that reflects his dedication, resilience, and commitment to the sport.
In addition, Dan’s impact both on and off the field has been recognised beyond rugby. He has been shortlisted for Disability Sportsperson of the Year at the Leeds Sports Awards, taking place on 14th May, further highlighting his inspiring contribution to sport and the wider community.
Chadwick Lawrence has proudly supported Dan’s journey from the start, sponsoring him as a player and backing his PDRL team. This partnership reflects the firm’s commitment to colleague wellbeing, personal growth, and inclusion through sport, as well as its ongoing involvement in the wider community through the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, where Managing Partner Neil Wilson served as a trustee.
On his experiences playing professional rugby and the support of the firm, Dan commented:“As a PDRL player, I’ve seen first-hand the difference corporate support can make. Rugby has always been a passion of mine, and I’m incredibly grateful for Chadwick Lawrence’s ongoing commitment to our team.
“The firm believes in giving back to the community and supporting one another, both inside and outside the workplace, and this sponsorship is a perfect example of that ethos in action.”
Player of the Year Recognition
In 2025, Dan’s dedication was recognised when he was named Player of the Year at the Leeds Rhinos Awards Evening, an achievement that took him completely by surprise.
The award, chosen by the coaching staff, recognised Dan’s commitment, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field – qualities that mirror the values he brings to his role at Chadwick Lawrence.
