Bradford District CCG on ‘greatest need for improvement’ list for maternity care
Figures released from NHS England show that a Bradford NHS group has been named as one of 11 Clinical Commissioning Groups with the ‘greatest need for improvement’ across the country.
The figures showed that maternity care needs to improve in almost 75 per cent of areas across the country. 209 CCGs were rated, with 144 registering as ‘needing improvement’ and 11, including Bradford District CCG, having the ‘greatest need for improvement’.
In compiling the data, maternity care was assessed in four areas; neonatal and stillbirth mortality rates, patient experience and choice, and maternal smoking rate at delivery.
The Royal College of Midwives chief executive Cathy Warwick, said that although she welcomed the “openness and transparency in publishing these ratings,” she was “concerned about the number of services requiring improvement.”
She went on to say “Hopefully these ratings will be used to help CCGs learn from the best and to improve quality where that is shown to be needed.”
NHS England’s Dr Matthew Jolly, said “It has never been safer to give birth in this country and the vast majority of women report a good experience, but there is more that we can do.
“The ratings published today will help local areas identify where they are doing well and importantly where improvements can be made – helping to ensure women and their families have a good experience wherever they live.”
