National Intern Day – Work Experience at Chadwick Lawrence
In celebration of National Intern Day, we’re proud to highlight the opportunities we offer to those looking to gain valuable experience in the legal profession.
We understand how difficult it can be for young people to access meaningful work experience. Particularly in law, the traditional route often relies on personal connections, academic pedigree, or a narrow idea of what a legal candidate should look like. At Chadwick Lawrence, we’re committed to breaking that mould.
Our inclusive and transparent application process is open to anyone aged 16 and over, with no formal requirements for previous experience, education, or existing links to the firm. We believe that ambition and willingness to learn should be what opens doors.
To ensure every placement is meaningful, we tailor the experience to the individual offering opportunities not only within our legal teams but also across our support services, such as accounts, HR, and IT. It’s all about providing practical, hands-on insight into the many paths a career in law can take.
What should you expect from a placement with us:
Whilst each placement will vary depending on the week and office location, many of our placements will offer a fantastic level of exposure across a whole range of legal areas including Dispute Resolution, Corporate and Contracts, Employment, Real Estate, Wills and Probate, Family Law and Acclaim. This will allow you firstly to gain a greater understanding of who we are, how we operate and what it takes to be a part of our team.
Secondly, a placement with us will allow you to gain a practical insight into the tasks our team do on a day-to-day basis such as, attending court hearings and client meetings, conducting legal research, drafting documents, engaging with clients and colleagues, and assisting with routine everyday responsibilities.
Our staff will be on hand to make you feel as comfortable as possible and pass on their wealth of knowledge and practical tips when it comes to studying, qualifications and career progression thereby giving you the opportunity to build your professional network and relationships and begin carving out your pathway towards your dream career.
The benefits of a placement with us
Some of the key benefits of a placement with us will be the opportunity to make informed career decisions whilst building the right relationships to help guide you in your next steps. Additionally, placements will include tailored skill development sessions covering areas such as CV writing, interview techniques, confidence building, legal research, and written and verbal communication skills.
Why choose Chadwick Lawrence for your placement
In 2025, we have placed 30 students via the scheme. This is what they had to say about their experience:
“My week has been fab. Chadwick Lawrence is the first firm I have experienced that have really treated me like one of them. I really enjoyed being involved with client meetings and the Court visit. The variety of departments and matters provided me with a real insight into the firm.”
“Everyone was really friendly and welcoming, I received plenty of valuable advice regarding my studies and given a wide range of tasks to complete.”
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks for welcoming a student from our college for their recent work experience placement. The opportunity provided has been incredibly valuable in helping them gain a deeper understanding of the world of work and develop a wide range of essential life and career skills. Experiences like this are instrumental in preparing young people for life beyond college, and your support plays a crucial role in that journey”.
As part of our commitment towards nurturing, young, homegrown talent, we here at Chadwick Lawrence have retained a number of long term staff members whose journey started via the firms work placement initiative and who described how they don’t think they would have been able to pursue a career in the legal profession without such outreach and access opportunities being available at an early stage in their career.
In addition to work placements, we have long standing partnerships with schools and colleges, including a partnership with the University of Huddersfield’s legal advice clinic providing access to pro-bono legal advice and legal training sessions to their law and business students and annual mentorship schemes to support students as well as their support networks to navigate and maximise opportunities in law.
