National Minimum Wage Increases
The Government has announced the National Minimum Wage increases which will be in place from October 2016. The Government has accepted recommendations from the Low Pay Commission in respect of the rates of pay.
The minimum rates of pay from 1st October 2016 will be as follows:-
- Workers aged 21-24 – £6.95 per hour
- Workers aged 18-20 (The Development Rate) – £5.55 per hour
- Workers (non apprentices) aged 16 and 17 – £4.00 per hour
- Apprentices – £3.40 per hour
It should also be noted that, from 1st April 2016, the new national living wage for workers over 25 will come into force, setting the minimum wage for these workers at £7.20 per hour. This rate will not increase again in October 2016, unlike for the other worker categories.
