Chadwick Lawrence Supporting Dementia Awareness Week
Here at Chadwick Lawrence our roots are firmly lodged in our local community, truly making us Yorkshire’s Legal People. As part of Dementia Awareness Week 2017, we are very pleased to be able to say that as part of our pledge to all staff to provide them with training and personal development we have undertaken a series of information sessions to enable them to become Dementia Friends as part of the Alzheimer’s Association initiative to provide better support in our local communities for those living with dementia, their families and friends and their carers. As Dementia Friends our members of staff have a clearer understanding of Dementia and how they can make life better for those people living with it, both at work and in their personal life, knowing that a very small action can make a big difference.
Over 1 million people in the UK have become Dementia Friends, whilst there are over 850,000 people living with dementia with some 225,000 people developing dementia each year.
The campaign to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding around dementia has got the support of a West Yorkshire volunteer who is a Dementia Champion and one of our own members of staff, Susan Preece. Susan is passionate about helping people understand more about dementia and how this can affect the lives of not only those living with it but the people around them too, and she is working to spread the word that there are so many small ways people can and make a huge difference in your own community.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition.
Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts. For more information about the please contact Sue on 0800 015 0340.
