Care watchdog rates under-review Nottingham maternity units as no longer inadequate
Nottingham maternity units where a number of babies died or were left injured are no longer rated as inadequate by the Care Quality Commission.
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust is subject to the largest review of its kind in the UK following a series of failings and police are also investigating the trust’s maternity services.
Bereaved families have said the report was a “small step” and added “much more needs to be done”.
Greg Rielly, deputy director of operations at CQC Midlands, said “At both maternity services, we saw an improvement in the level of care being provided to people and their babies since we last rated both services as inadequate.
“It is positive to see that the trust is now on an improvement journey to bring about safer and better care.”
However, the latest report said the trust’s maternity service “did not have enough substantive staff to care for women and keep them safe” and not all staff had undertaken training in key skills or assessed risks to women in a timely way.
The CQC went on to say that further inspections would be undertaken to ensure improvements in maternity continued.
