Concerns over suspended births at midwife-led centre due to ambulance strikes
An NHS trust has said women will not be able to give birth at a birthing centre while ambulance staff strike.
Bath’s Royal United Hospital said births at Frome Birthing Centre have been temporarily suspended because safe transfer to hospital cannot be guaranteed if required.
The midwife-led centre said it had “made the difficult decision” due to “increased strain” on the ambulance service, but that it will continue to provide antenatal and postnatal support.
The centre said it was “sorry for any disappointment this may cause” and hope “for a speedy resolution to this dispute”.
The suspension will remain in place until 7pm on Monday.
