Fire Service sets out goals for 2016/17
Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield Fire Commanders have all outlined their priorities over the next 12 months. All of the Fire plans for the coming 12 months have a commercial or business element. The Group Action Manager of the Bradford area, Martin Speed, has pledged to make Bradford a safer place to live and work.
Group Manager Speed said
“Our aim is to make Bradford District a safer place to live and work. We will do this primarily through prevention activities such as home fire safety checks in peoples’ homes and fire safety visits to workplaces”
Similarly, Andrew Farrell, Group Manager of Kirklees Fire Authority, stated that he wanted to work closely with partners in the district to reduce the risk of fire and road traffic collisions.
This was a similar theme to the Wakefield Fire Authority Action Plan, whose goal is to strengthen partnerships in order to identify high risk homes and businesses.
The message, therefore, from the Fire Authorities is very clear; that proactive fire inspections will continue in order to prevent commercial incidents occurring. It is therefore important that you are aware of your Fire Safety obligations and, in particular, that you have conducted a proper and thorough Fire Risk Assessment.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service does have the ability to take enforcement action and, indeed, in one very high profile case a company was fined £125,000 for breaches of Fire Regulations. It is therefore extremely important that your fire obligations are fully satisfied in order to avoid such fines.
