Inspectors say ‘more work needed’ at Dorset hospital following concerns raised by whistleblowers
Poole Hospital in Dorset was given a warning notice by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in June 2018, which highlighted problems with staff support and the management of medicines.
The inspection was prompted following a series of ‘never events’ (incidents which are deemed to be so serious that they should never happen) and concerns raised by whistleblowers.
Following a recent follow-up visit, the CQC found that the trust had met the specific requirements of the warning notice, but further problems were identified, including poor control of infections in operating theatres.
Debbie Fleming, chief executive of the hospital, said “We welcome the commission’s lifting of their warning notice and are pleased that improvements have been noted in a range of areas.
“Nevertheless, there are areas in which we are determined to improve further, we are clear that more needs to be done.”
The CQC said “We will continue to monitor services closely and return in the future to check on progress.”
