Survey finds expectant and new mothers feel more anxious due to Covid
According to research, nearly 50 per cent of expectant and new mothers feel nervous or anxious, while more than 75 per cent say the coronavirus pandemic has added to their fears.
The survey by pregnancy charity Tommys of 1,000 new or expectant mothers found that seven in ten felt overwhelmed at some point during their pregnancy, 14 per cent said they had struggled throughout the pregnancy, 49 per cent felt anxious or nervous and 77 per cent said the pandemic had added to their fears.
Kate Marsh, midwifery manager at the charity, advised mothers to use their Healthy Pregnancy tool to research up-to-date information about pregnancy. “Knowledge is power – and when it comes to pregnancy, feeling confident you have everything you need to do the right thing for you and you baby is important – but there is such a thing as too much information, which can leave mums-to-be anxious and overwhelmed. Expectant parents need advice they can trust and personally tailored support throughout their pregnancy journey, not myths and misconceptions that evidence has disproved.”
