Study finds Covid vaccines do not affect fertility in women
A study has suggested that Coronavirus vaccines do not affect a woman’s ability to conceive a child.
Researchers in New York monitored over 2,000 women undergoing in-vitro fertilisation or fertility treatment and found that rates of pregnancy were the same among unvaccinated women and those double-jabbed with Moderna or Pfizer, and said the findings added to ‘ever-increasing evidence’ the vaccines did not interfere with fertility.
Dr Devora Aharon, lead author of the study, added that there was no difference in ‘egg quality or embryo development’ between women who were vaccinated and unvaccinated.
She went on to say “Our findings that vaccination had no impact on these outcomes should be reassuring to those who are trying to conceive or are in early pregnancy.”
Hesitancy surrounding the vaccine has been common among women and expectant mothers due to concerns about fertility. But despite millions of women vaccinated around the world, there has been no increase in miscarriages or significant reductions in birth rates.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says there is ‘no biologically plausible mechanism by which current vaccines would cause any impact on a woman’s fertility.
‘Evidence has not been presented that women who have been vaccinated have gone on to have fertility problems.’
