‘Significant’ cash boost for the NHS
Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has said that the NHS will receive a ‘significant increase’ in its budget.
The deal, which coincides with the health service’s 70th birthday, is yet to be finalised, but the health secretary has said that Prime Minister Theresa May was ‘unbelievably committed’ to ‘sustainable funding increases’.
It has been reported that although Mr Hunt is arguing for a 4% annual increase in funding in order to cope with additional pressures, the Treasury has said that anything over 2% or 2.5% is unaffordable.
Mr Hunt said “I’ve been making the NHS’s case that we need significant and sustainable funding increases to meet the demographic challenges we face, and the prime minister completely appreciates that.”
