Why make a Will?
Recent research from Will Aid shows that approximately 27 million of the 51 million adults living in the UK today do not have a Will – just over half of our population.
This research highlights four of main reason why people have not yet made a Will:
- They simply hadn’t got round to it;
- Many did not want to think about it
- Some thought they were too young to make a Will and did not see it as necessary
- Others thought they had nothing valuable to leave
There may be serious arguments between family members after a loved one has passed with no Will in place, for example, something may have been promised to a loved one but as there is no Will there is no evidence of gift or other family members may be entitled to something that the loved one would not have wanted to pass to them.
By putting a Will in place before you die you can clarify your wishes and your estate will pass to whom you wanted it to pass to with ease and without causing any stress after passing. If inheritance tax is applicable, a well drafted Will put in place before death will make sure your estate is dealt with effectively and efficiently.
