2022 Seminar Programme

This week we are very excited to mark the return of our in-person seminar events.

Our Employment Law update is taking place on Wednesday at our Huddersfield office with festivities starting from 11am. It will be great to see many of you in person for the first time in over 2 years.

In addition to the seminar programme “in the news” this week there has been a number of important updates from the Tribunal including the increase in Vento Bands.

Further events will be scheduled throughout the year but for now please find the details below for our events on 6 April 2022 and 4 May 2022:

Wednesday 6 April 2022 – 11am – Employment Law update 2022 (Huddersfield)

Join us at this event where we will explore and advise on the yearly update to Employment Law, including what to look out for in the coming year. This will include both updates to case law and legislation that will be relevant.

Wednesday 4th May 2022 – 11am – Managing Employees with under 2 years’ service (Webinar)

We will be delivering a seminar which considers how to manage an employee with under two years’ service when concerns arise, and the risks of potential litigation involved when this is not managed correctly. This will include considering claims that can be pursed when an employee does not have two-years continuous employment and how to avoid these.

The seminar program is now in full swing and links the all the events can be found on our website:

In the News

There have been lots of relevant employment law/HR updates this week.

Increase in the Vento Bands

In discrimination claims the Tribunal may award compensation for ‘injury to feelings’ in which the Vento Bands provide a guide for Tribunals when calculating the amount to award the Claimant.

From April 2022, the Vento Bands are increasing to the following:

  • Lower band (less serious cases) £990-£9,900
  • Middle band (cases that do not merit an award in the upper band) £9,900-£29,600
  • Upper band (most serious cases) £29,600-£49,300
  • Exceptional cases £49,300 or above.

Redaction of documents

Frewer v Google

The Claimant pursued a claim for automatic unfair dismissal relating to a whistleblowing allegation. Google applied under rules 29 and 50 of the Employment Tribunal Rules of Procedure 2013 to redact client names and commercially sensitive information. The tribunal granted the order.

The EAT held that the tribunal had failed to consider the ‘open justice principle’ when granting the order to make an anonymisation order.

AOB

Whilst our primary aim is to bring you the latest updates on issues and changes in employment law and HR, we understand that businesses have other requirements from time to time and would like to take this opportunity to remind you that our firm offer other services that can support you.

Acclaim – Credit Management and Recovery

We are well aware of the frustration that many of our clients experience chasing debt from customers. We therefore wanted to introduce our Credit Management and Recovery service known as Acclaim.

  • Launched Acclaim Credit Management and Recovery formally in October 2019;
  • Introduced following a significant investment in our IT systems which has allowed us to create a competitively priced, fast efficient and flexible debt recovery service;
  • Our model is based primarily on a contingent fee structure – if we don’t recover the money – we don’t get paid;
  • We specialise in business to business debt recovery and seek to recover reasonable debt recovery costs from debtors;
  • We can act to recover single debts or bulk debt books.

Acclaim Credit Management and Recovery has had a very successful first year and has secured some major clients. We believe that our success is because we have kept it simple.  We have asked our clients 3 questions :-

1                     Do you have any outstanding debts?;

2                     Do you want to recover those debts at no cost to you?

3                     Can we contact you?

Dan Hirst is a Partner at Chadwick Lawrence & Head of Acclaim Credit Management and Recovery, and would be happy to advise you, please contact DanHirst@chadlaw.co.uk
